A few weeks ago an adorable fanart of Pikachu wearing Cubone’s bone helmet popped up on my dash. There was some good natured SJ-ribbing in the comments about Pikachu culturally appropriating Cubone. A suggestion was made that Pikachu won the helmet in a fight to justify it.

One of my followers started writing posts on her tumblr and it became clear that she really did think Pikachu had culturally appropriated Cubone and she was actually offended by it. Then she said that she would challenge anyone who reblogged the fanart to a fight, with the understanding that she would take the loser’s skull and use it as a hat. She seemed completely serious.

I unfollowed very fast after that. Internet induced hyperbole or not, that kind of stuff is scary to read.
