I’ve enabled text submissions, if anyone who wants to submit their stories about Social Justice Sally’s. Don’t name any names and obvious vendetta posts or personal attacks will not be posted; just your personal experiences.
edit: ALSO, on the memes, PLEASE submit with readable font! It should be WHITE IMPACT FONT WITH BLACK BORDER, and of a readable size.
One is “JUST THE MEMES”. This is for JUST MEMES, so if you go there you’ll avoid ask drama
The other is “EXPERIENCES AND ADVICE”. This is where I grouped asks from helpful anons and users who offered their experiences with SJS’s and provided useful information on certain SJ topics to help educate the young’uns.
now everyone drink some tea and calm the fuck down
As fun as it is debating with people who like to demonize everyone with a differing point of view, people watched the blog for memes and memes they shall have, there’s plenty of other SJ on Tumblr to get involved with
I might reopen Asks at a later date, but for now, no
Masculist not anti-feminist here, love the blog. This is so relevant kind of to me when everyone's so social justice about pretty much everything except for men's right's. They may think they have so much more priveleges over women but that is not necessarily the truth, especially for fathers and male crime victims. Enough yammering on, good job!
As races should be equal, the sexes should also be. It’s not about who’s MORE oppressed, it’s about the fact that oppression exists and getting into a slapfight with random people on the internet won’t make oppression go away for anyone. Thank you, sir!
I live in a mostly poc dense community, which is mostly that way due to a cycle of economic disparity causing surrounding areas to have higher levels of rich people who are white while the city I live in is mainly poor poc, as one of the few white people (sixth grade class had only me and one other girl and one other boy), people often assume I am rich -which I am not, but I'm not below the poverty line- and act rrudely towards me because of that.
The way it was explained to me, Trans* is a more inclusive term that can refer to not just transmen/women, but intersex, genderqueer, bi-gender, agender and so on and so forth. I’m not sure why an asterisk makes it more inclusive but if that’s the word we’re going with then I’ll roll with it.
Hey, PoC here, I actually agree with the fact that ALL races can be discriminated against. I follow some people who don't agree, but you know, it's whatever. I don't see how it's okay how we can get away with saying" I hate all white people" because a group of them oppressed us. Not all white people are racist. Not all white people were against us. BTW. I love your blog. :3
wow i have never seen such a good idea for a blog crash and burn so fast; what started off as people poking fun at silly bloggers has turned into this weird ignorant anon circlejerk. posts about heterophobia and reverse racism? REALLY?
I’m pretty much ready to turn off Asks dor the time being. I honestly wasn’t expecting this to happen considering this blog has been around for a month or so and only had like 30 followers until this morning so I’m kinda blown away by the sheer volume of response I’ve been getting. I want to get back to silly memes myself (stocking the queue).
I wish more people were willing to stand up to the sillier side of social justice. If there were more blogs like this one, maybe, just maybe, we could all band together for a common goal of peace, tolerance, and knowledge!
But probably not though. Hey, an anon can dream.
For some reason, "go fuck yourself" seems to to be the phrase of choice for SJSs these days. Last I checked, that doesn't fix ignorance any more than corrective rape "fixes" a person's sexual orientation.
Didn’t you know that if you don’t instantly know everything ever you are an ignorant troglodyte that cannot ever be redeemed?
1) if we're going to play that game, i demand significant examples (aka more than one) of a sj blogger flipping their shit after someone asked a legitimate question. if you can find them, i'll cede the argument. because right now it just looks like you're misrepresenting what actually happens because you think we're all meanies. 2) to that last posted anon: i said "in any meaningful way." isolated incidents once in a blue moon don't count.
It’s pretty cute how you’re pretending I’m referring to every SJ blogger and not just, you know, you. Someone didn’t read the disclaimer!
"Isolated incidents once in a blue moon don’t count"? Tell that to male victims of domestic violence, or white people who are beaten by minorities. Dismissing victims of discrimination of any kind is pathetic.
So says my Practical Reasoning textbook: "The burden of proof for any position usually rests on the participant who sets forth the position. If and when an opponent asks, the proponent should provide an argument for that position." tl;dr: Unless your position is "gravity makes you fall", you need to be ready to back it up with facts, or just don't say anything at all.
I will never understand why certain social justice advocates seem to fail to understand that attempting to educate people in a respectful manner actually works. Yes, I know you're not teachers, and it's not your job and you're not being paid for this. But you can't just throw someone who has existed in their own little bubble of privilege their entire life into the world of isms and phobias and privilege checklists and ze/hir and expect them to immediately adapt and know everything.
When I was younger I lived in an apartment building with a majority of poc. i got picked on because I was the only little white girl. Please tell me white people are never discriminated. (in comment to people who think otherwise, not this blog)
also, i'm wasting my time arguing with you because i'm fucking sick of other people who ARE INTO SOCIAL JUSTICE giving me bullshit for not responding to things like overt misogyny and racism with politeness, and acting like privileged groups are discriminated against in any meaningful way by minority groups. you're not being "level-headed" and "objective," you're watering down the meaning of social justice and stratifying all of us in your effort to be more palatable to society.
Hey guess who lives in society
Not just “the privileged” (white/straight/male = affluent and happy, guys), but the minorities
So don’t you think being “palatable to society” is pretty much exactly what you should be trying to accomplish?
you're equating asking legitimate questions and being open to whatever answer you get with what people actually do, which is say something offensive then get mad and demand studies and argue over your explanation of the issue. no one reblogging that post with dissent is talking about legitimate questions. i have not seen ONE sj blogger get pissy with someone for asking a real question and acknowledging their ignorance.
You are sure putting a lot of words into mouths here
First off, you can’t fault someone for asking for a source after someone runs up to you with a statement and intending it to be taken as fact. Asking for a source in response is usually making an assumption that what they are having is, indeed, a conversation and not a self-righteous opinion hit-and-run.
The people reblogging that post are bitching because the post in itself is basically saying that explaining to someone why they’re wrong instead of flying off the handle and insulting the shit out of them is the prefferred route. Instead, you guys, hey, totally flew off the handle and started bemoaning the fact that it’s “not your job” to explain issues to people even though you are often the ones starting the aforementioned arguments.
And don’t continue with the “BUT I’M TALKING ABOUT ALL THOSE ASSHOLES OUT THERE WHO ARE DOING IT *ON PURPOSE*!” because they never really factored into this at all.
I never thought “give an example as to what you mean because I never realized this was an issue until now” was offensive
This is pretty much the equivalent of a kid sitting in class, not quite understanding a question posed to him in an assignment, and when he…
Wow so you like, have people literally run up to you out of nowhere when you walk down the street asking why random things are offensive? That’s kind of strange. Unless you mean by “literally run up to you on the street” you actually mean “question me after I pick a fight on the internet”, in which case actually yeah people are justified in asking you to explain, especially considering it could be over something they never even realized was offensive (thus they had no reason to look it up prior to that)
Better yet, you’re complaining not that people ask you a question, but that several different people have asked you the same question. I’m sorry, but that isn’t an excuse for being a bitch and for someone whose entire blog is about TITS AND FEMINISM you’d think you’d be a little more willing to actually talk about the issues you’re so fond of instead of writing off those who are none the wiser as ignorant assholes
I never knew why there was an * after Trans* so I asked my Trans* friend and he told me. Yes, he answered a question that I asked him instead of losing his shit over how much of an apparent lazy ignorant asshole I was. That’s because I live in a world where communicating and discussing with other human beings is not a Bad Thing. Hopefully one day you’ll join me here.
